Alfred Lui, M.D., F.C.A.P.
Chairman of the Board and Chief Medical Officer

Alfred Lui, MD, FCAP, is Chairman of the Board and Chief Medical Officer at Pathology, Inc., in Torrance, CA. His specialty areas include pathology of liver diseases and gynecologic pathology. He is co-founder of Pathology, Inc. and the current Medical Director. He is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist who has spent three decades serving in laboratory director and clinical roles with leading hospitals and healthcare enterprises throughout Southern California. He also serves as a Board member of Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Lui is active in several pathology societies including the California Society of Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists where he currently serves as a member of the Publications Committee and. He also previously served as a member of the Council on Education and the Council on Membership and Professional Development. He is a Past President of the California Society of Pathologists (CSP) and currently serves as a member of the CSP Education Committee. He received his medical degree from Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California. He completed his residency in pathology at Harbor- UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, California. He began his career as a pathologist at the Liver Unit of the University of Southern California Medical Center and John Wesley Hospital. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.


Vicki DiFrancesco


Vicki DiFrancesco is a senior executive with 20+ years experience in the laboratory services industry and a proven track record of building successful laboratories through organic sales, business retention, development and promotion of new test offerings and acquisitions. Among her successes, Ms. DiFrancesco has led the growth of several large national laboratories and has consistently achieved profitable growth by setting aggressive, yet realistic objectives. Under Vicki’s leadership, she has attracted some of the top talent in the industry and maintains excellent relationships throughout the industry.

Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Spectrum Laboratory Network in North Carolina, one of the largest independent regional clinical laboratories, from 2006 to 2008. Prior to that, Ms. DiFrancesco served as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Specialty Laboratories, which was acquired by AmeriPath, and was responsible for overseeing esoteric sales and marketing.

From 1997 to 2002, Ms. DiFrancesco was Executive Vice President of Sales at American Medical Laboratories, while it became the third largest clinical laboratory company specializing in esoteric testing services. After the successful sale of American Medical Laboratories to Quest Diagnostics in 2002 for $500M, Ms. DiFrancesco served as Vice President of Hospital Sales and Marketing at Quest Diagnostics, Inc., overseeing a specialized sales and service organization. From 1990 to 1997, Ms. DiFrancesco held responsibilities in business development and sales management at Laboratory Corporation of America, Inc. (formerly National Health Laboratories, Inc.).


Steve Pierce

Chief Financial Officer

Steve Pierce is a senior executive with 40 years of diversified industries experience in all facets of accounting, financing and administration. Mr. Pierce has demonstrated performance in setting and implementing strategic direction; executing acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures; improving operation and profitability; sourcing public and private capital; and representing the company to its investors.

Most recently Mr. Pierce was Executive VP at Spectrum Laboratory Network where he served from 2006 to 2007. He also served as a member on the Board of Directors until Spectrum was acquired by Welsh Carson in December 2009. Prior to Spectrum, he served as Chief Financial Officer of U.S. Pathology Labs which was acquired by LabCorp. Prior to that, he was Chief Financial Officer of American Medical Laboratories which was acquired by Quest Diagnostics. Prior to entering the laboratory industry, Mr. Pierce served in senior financial positions within Divisions of Halliburton Industries and Dresser Industries. Mr. Pierce began his career with General Electric Company.


Bob Dowd

Senior Vice President, Revenue Services

Bob Dowd brings extensive experience in the healthcare field, with 26 years in the clinical laboratory field and an additional 10 years in large medical/dental facilities. This experience includes leadership roles in Accounts Receivable and Revenue Services for Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, and for 10 years, in Information Technology as the Chief Information Officer for Sonora Quest Laboratories, the largest clinical laboratory in Arizona. From February 2010 through January, 2011 he served as CIO for MEDLAB/Laboratory Partners based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mr. Dowd has considerable experience with business and system integrations through multiple acquisitions, mergers, and business consolidations. The success of these endeavors was validated by excellent customer retention and internal customer feedback.

As Co-Chair of the Clinical/Technical Committee for the Arizona Health-e Connection, Mr. Dowd was tasked with the mission to have all healthcare providers in Arizona using electronic medical records within the next 5 years.

Mr. Dowd was honored as one of Computerworld's 2007 Premier 100 IT Leaders. He was also named the 2007 IT Practitioner of the Year by the Arizona Chapter of the Society of Information Management.

Mr. Dowd was President of the Arizona Chapter of HIMSS from 2008 through 2009. He currently serves as Secretary for the CSOHIMSS Chapter, through June, 2011.

Mr. Dowd has a BA in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University.


Joe Barnes

Executive Vice President

Joe is a senior executive with over 20 years of experience in the laboratory services industry, including business development, corporate strategy and M & A transactions. Joe is responsible for the company’s Reproductive Testing Division (Reprovita) and direct management of Client Support Services and Logistics.

Joe began his career with Laboratory Corporation of America (1991-1998) where he served as Associate Vice President of Business Development and was responsible for all new sales growth in California including; Hospital Alliances, Managed Care Contracting, and Clinical Sales. He continued his management career with American Medical Laboratories (1998-2003) where he played an integral role in the company’s rapid growth and success. At American Medical Laboratories, Joe served as the Senior Vice President of Business Development for the Western United States.

After his tenure at American Medical Laboratories, Joe founded Apex Laboratories in Henderson Nevada. Apex Laboratories specialized in Anatomic Pathology Services and Joe served as the President/CEO (2003-2009) before selling the company to Clinical Pathology Laboratories Inc. and merging their Nevada operations. In addition, since 2002 Joe has operated his own business consulting company specializing in strategic planning, business development, leadership training and M&A activities. His company has helped to successfully facilitate five laboratory services transactions representing over $150 million in combined revenues.

Joe earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing at Arizona State University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Athgo International, an organization that provides constructive entrepreneurship programs to college students in over 80 countries.


Ron Blum, PhD

Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Business Development

Dr. Blum brings nearly twenty years of experience in the medical and clinical laboratory industries having worked at such innovative companies as Culture Technology, Inc., Specialty Laboratories, DiagnoCure and Exiqon Diagnostics. He has been instrumental in bringing to market hundreds of new and enhanced assays in the areas of oncology, infectious disease, rheumatology, genetics, women’s health, gastroenterology, endocrinology, immunology, hematology, and nephrology.

Dr. Blum has lectured internationally on the latest developments in personalized medicine, biotechnology, and laboratory science, and has published extensively. He serves as Editorial Advisor to Clinical Lab Products magazine and is on the Board of Directors for the California Medical Technology Association Education & Research Corporation. An accomplished screenwriter, Dr. Blum has written for and worked with executives and producers from such studios as Disney and serves as a judge for the International Health & Medical Media Awards.

Dr. Blum received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UCLA before attending UCLA’s School of Dentistry. After completing two years with honors, Dr. Blum switched fields and obtained his Master of Science degree in Physics from California State University, Northridge, and then his Ph.D. in Biophysics from UC Berkeley.


Eric F. Glassy, M.D., F.C.A.P.
Medical Director

Eric F. Glassy, M.D., is a board certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist. He has served as Laboratory Director for several Southern California hospitals and has served in key leadership roles for hospital staff and foundation committees. Dr. Glassy also served as an information systems and new media consultant to Cedars- Sinai Medical Center. He currently serves as a Medical Director at Pathology, Inc.

Dr. Glassy is active in several national pathology societies including the College of American Pathologists where he has served or serves in various leadership and member positions on the Hematology Resource Committee, Publications Committee, Education Committee, and Council on Membership and Professional Development. He was recently honored by CAP with the Pathologists’ Distinguished Service Award. He is also a member of the CAP Foundation.

He is a well-known lecturer and has authored several publications in his fields of interest. He has also edited and illustrated the CAP Color Atlas of Hematology, Color Atlas of Body Fluids and was the designer and illustrator of the Color Atlas of Hemoglobinopathies. He is the developer of a variety of software programs for pathology and holds a green belt in Six-Sigma.

He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, California. He served his pathology residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he also served a fellowship in hematopathology.


Dennis Sevilla, CT (ASCP), MBA, PhD

Senior Vice President of Operations

Dennis Sevilla is responsible for the anatomic laboratory operations of Pathology, Inc. and assisting with strategic development for the organization. He brings a broad scientific and business background. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a degree in Cytotechnology from Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. In addition, he has a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of California Los Angeles Anderson School of Business and a Ph.D. in Economics from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California.

Dr. Sevilla came to Pathology, Inc. after serving as the Chief Operating Officer from 1986-2002 for Cytology Services Group, Inc., where he was responsible for operations management and establishing goals and objectives for the company. He also served as Lecturer of Managerial Economics from 2007-2008 at California State University of Long Beach and as Adjunct Professor of Economics from 2006-2007 at Golden West Community College, Huntington Beach, California. He is also an author and speaker on topics related to economics.


Michael D. Mosunic, MBA, M.A.

Executive Vice President of Sales

Michael Mosunic joined Pathology, Inc. in 2009.  Michael’s tenure in the diagnostic laboratory industry began with Laboratory Corporation of America from 2000-2005. In his first year with the company, he excelled into the position as the highest-ranked Sales Representative in the country. He advanced rapidly and was promoted to Regional Manager of Business Development, where he and his team substantially expanded LabCorp's presence in the Western market. From 2005-2009, as Partner and COO of Slone Partners, Michael was responsible for managing sales and operations for the rapidly growing executive recruitment and leadership consulting firm.

Michael graduated with honors from LeMoyne College, holds an M.A. degree in Biobehavioral Science from Columbia University, and completed his MBA at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California.


Safedin (Sajo) H. Beqaj,

Scientific Director

Dr. Sajo Beqaj is board certified in molecular diagnostics and as a Clinical Consultant. He has been practicing as a laboratory director since 2005. He received his Ph.D. in Pathology from Wayne State University Medical School, Detroit, Michigan. He performed his post-doctoral fellowship at Abbott Laboratories from 2001-2003. He continued his career as a Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois until 2005 when he joined Path Group Labs, Nashville, Tennessee as Laboratory Director in molecular diagnostics. In 2008 he joined DCL Medical Laboratories as Laboratory Director for Clinical Pathology where he was responsible for clinical laboratory operations and technical operations including development and implementation of new tests and technologies. Although he is a board certified high-complexity laboratory director and oversees all clinical pathology operations, his field of expertise is in molecular diagnostics and genetic testing.

He has served professorships in the pathology department at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan; in molecular diagnostics at Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee; and in anatomy and physiology at Nashville State Community College, Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Beqaj has published more than 20 medical textbook chapters and journal articles. In addition, he has presented various scientific clinical abstracts and has conducted clinical trials for several well-known pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies. He is a member of numerous medical and scientific associations including the Association of Molecular Pathology, American Association of Clinical Chemistry and the Pan Am Society for Clinical Virology. He has served on a number of clinical laboratory regulatory and scientific committees and has assisted several laboratories and physicians as a Clinical Laboratory Consultant.


Ryan Palmer,
SVP Information Technology

Ryan is a senior executive with over 15 years of experience in the laboratory services industry. Ryan began his career at Laboratory Corporation of America (1999 – 2009). While at LabCorp he was responsible for all aspects of the information technology integration process. Ryan managed two regional divisions, consolidated over 20 laboratories acquired by LabCorp, and played a key role in building three regional laboratories over his 15 year career.

After his tenure at Laboratory Corporation of America, Ryan served as the IT Director at PathLogic where he was given the opportunity to rebuild the company’s core IT foundation. Ryan rebuilt telecom, LAN, WAN, migrated mission critical systems to a datacenter, and played a key role in launching a clinical laboratory.

In December of 2012, Ryan was presented an opportunity with Pathology Inc. as AVP of IT. He was again tasked with rebuilding the Information Systems team as well as all aspects of the companies IT infrastructure including; Telecom, rebuilding and stabilizing LAN and WAN networks, updated server environment, launching an AP LIS, developed mobile applications and new technologies to drive communications and business, as well as creating much needed documentation on all technical aspects. Ryan was quickly promoted from AVP in 2012 to VP in 2013, and now serves as SVP of Information Technology.

Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in Business and Management from the University of Redlands, and has obtained I.T. technical certificates in telecom engineering, and network administration CNA.
