Instructions/Notes

Heterophilic antibodies in human serum can react with reagent immunoglobulins, interfering with in vitro immunoassays. Patients routinely exposed to animals or to animal serum products can be prone to this interference and anomalous values may be observed.

Clinical Utility

Diagnostically used in the quantitative determination of autoantibodies against thyroglobulin. This assay is intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and Graves’ diseases which are autoimmune diseases affecting the thyroid gland.
