Apolipoprotein A (Apo A1 and Apo A2) are the major protein components of HDL and constitutes nearly 90% of the protein mass. Apo A1 plays a role in the activation of lecithin-cholesterol-acyltransferase (LCAT) and in the removal of free cholesterol from extrahepatic tissues.
