Clinical Utility
AMH levels are associated with ovarian reserve, evaluating fertility status, assessing abnormalities such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and ovarian tumors, and helping to predict the onset of menopause. AMH in males is involved in inhibiting the Mullerian ducts during fetal development and pathologically can result in persistent Mullerian duct syndrome and cryptorchidism. May be useful in evaluating infants with ambiguous genitalia. AMH remains present during childhood in males but drastically decreases during puberty.
