Clinical Utility

CLO test, also known as a rapid urea test, is a medical test that is used for diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori. The acronym CLO stands for Campylobacter-like Organism. The test is performed by embedding a piece of tissue (biopsy) from the endoscopy just performed on the patient into a square of media containing urea. If the test is positive, the media will turn shades of blue indicating the presence of urea which is produced by the organsim Helicobacter pylori.
